“As a teacher, I encourage reading and The Kids Reading Room contributes to that. I enjoy seeing kids come in to read together and even more so when kids bring their younger siblings. One of the best moments I’ve had in the Reading Room was when a 3rd grade girl brought in her much younger brother. She began reading to him out of a book that was in Spanish. Later, she chose a book that was in English. She read through the book and then began translating it for him page-by-page. It was amazing!”
SARAH ARABI I Katbi, Teacher“I believe where you invest, you get a return. I enjoyed the opportunity of investing in young people’s lives and to help ensure a brighter future for them. Today’s Readers will be Tomorrow’s Leaders!”
ROY REYES I Communities in Schools"I read to my son regularly and know how much he enjoys. So I thought of volunteering to read for kids who don't have that opportunity. I found about KRR through volunteer match and wanted to try and see what the environment is like. There I saw how much the kids enjoyed reading with an adult. So I decided to start spending some time whenever I could get out of work early. Trish and the other volunteers there are so committed and friendly and work with the volunteers and their busy schedules. I would highly recommend this program to any other volunteers who like working with children."

“Children need to be able to read with no strings attached. To read simply for the joy of discovering new worlds and meeting new and amazing people. Volunteering with The Kids Reading Room takes the ‘school work’ out of reading.”
PENNE IRVIN I Spring Branch ISD Teacher“Now that my children are grown I love volunteering at the Kids Reading Room each week and sharing the love of reading with other children. Bringing literacy to the communities where they live is a wonderful opportunity I've been blessed with. Each week is different and fun sometime I read and other times I get
read to. As a volunteer I enjoy it just as much if not more than the children we serve!” MARGARET PICHON I KKR, Castlewood“The ability to read is the cornerstone for future learning and life-long success. At the Kids' Reading Room, I'm able to help foster the love of reading in a child...what could be more important? I began volunteering at the Kids Reading Room in 2014. I have noticed a huge progression first-hand. The kids look forward to coming to read with us each week; the kids are progressing and excelling at reading - and more importantly - they are developing a love of reading. Witnessing this first-hand has been such a gift. Further, sharing this experience with my two sons (as they join as junior volunteers each week) has made it even more meaningful.”

“Reading for children is the best gift you can ever give a child, reading evokes a journey any young, middle-aged or tween would like to be, it gives them an opportunity to dream and relate to various characters. Reading with friends or among other people creates a connection and accountability that will model their future. I love to watch their innocent, excited, shocked faces when I read to them. That's how I know I've made a difference.”
